Abstract

This community engagement program reports the implementation of field-based learning assistance for students enrolled in the Tourism Management elective course at Universitas Islam Negeri Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Conducted in June 2025, the program involved 86 undergraduate students and was designed to bridge theoretical knowledge with authentic tourism practices through a structured study tour to Bali as a major national tourism destination. The assistance model emphasized experiential learning by integrating academic guidance, reflective observation, and supervised field activities across various tourism sectors, including destination management, hospitality services, cultural attractions, and sustainable tourism practices. Lecturers provided continuous mentoring before, during, and after the field activities to support students in analyzing tourism operations, stakeholder roles, and service quality from a managerial perspective. Data were gathered through structured observations, reflective learning reports, and performance-based assessments to capture students’ learning processes and competency development. The findings indicate that field-based learning assistance enhanced students’ analytical skills, professional awareness, teamwork, and contextual understanding of tourism management concepts. Students demonstrated improved ability to connect classroom theories with real-world tourism dynamics, particularly in understanding destination competitiveness, service management, and ethical tourism practices. Despite logistical and time management challenges inherent in large-scale field activities, the program contributed meaningfully to strengthening applied learning outcomes and student readiness for professional engagement in the tourism industry. Overall, the study highlights the strategic value of structured academic assistance in field-based tourism education to ensure meaningful, reflective, and competency-oriented learning experiences.
